The Limo in the Driveway

Sunday, August 10th, 2014

If you ever make your way to the good ole’ south, I suggest you bring friends and a high quality camera because you are in for a treat with some of the most amazing sights from David Hill House.  Peer out the window overlooking the valley and beneath you lies the most beautiful, shiny white pristine object you have ever seen.  As it sits glistening in the sun, radiating from all angles, and beaming with confidence, a more careful glimpse would suggest that this lovely elongated body of a vehicle was in fact a limousine.

I stared in awe and stood star-strucked.  Why was there a limo parked outside the house?  Would I dare to dream that this beautiful fancy ride was for me?  For a moment, I allowed myself to believe it.  I was a kid in a candy store and could no longer stand and stare.  Before I knew it, my feet took off like a race horse, darting past the guest bath, down two flights of stairs, past the formal dining room, out the double doors, and suddenly, I came to a halt.

Holy cow!  This beautiful limo towered over me like the Empire State building.  I couldn’t take my eyes off the sexy sleek body on this vehicle which must have stretched as long as the Yangtze River.  The fender and headlights sparkled like a 2-carat diamond ring.  I took 3 steps towards the limo and saw nothing but my own reflection through the crystal clean glass, perfectly tinted like my Rayban shades.  Only, it looked cooler.

Eager to see what awaits inside, I slowly reached for the pure white handles.  Suddenly a shadow appeared from around the corner and I quickly pulled my hand back, as to not get caught red-handed.  My cheeks blushed a slight rouge and I raised my head to see a middle-aged man, finely dressed in his black Neiman Marcus suit and fancy tie, stand over me.  He glanced a quick smile at me and greeted me with a nod.  I noticed that his hands must be quite clean as it didn’t leave a trace of fingerprints on the door handle when he opened it.

I stood there and took a long whiff of the wonderful scent that emerged from inside the car.  It was reminiscent of the time Mom and Dad brought home our brand new Toyota Camry.  I still remember the day like it was yesterday.  I was only 8-years old, but it felt like Christmas.  Being inside the Camry was like being inside a brand new play house– you’re in awe of this larger-than-life object and  just want to explore and touch everything.  I was mesmerized by all the glove compartment, the dashboard, the roominess, and all the different buttons around the center console.  But what was most noticeable was the killer new car smell!  I closed my eyes, took a deep breath in, and devoured myself in the wonderful scent.

After a long breath out, I slowly opened my eyes and found myself standing before the beautiful limousine again.  Only, the door was opened and awaiting my entrance.  Or was it?  I felt a mix of confusion and curiosity all at once.  My good conscience tells me that I should remain outside.  However, my curiosity got the best of me and before I knew it, both feet were inside the beautifully carpeted limo.  All my senses were enlightened suddenly as I sank into the soft, plush black leather lounge seats, knowing that if I got too comfortable I would be in trouble.

My eyes quickly shot over to the sparkling crystal glasses hanging across the bar in perfect alignment.  Just below it was a bottle of champagne sitting in a silver bucket of ice, wrapped in an elegant silver bow .  I glanced to my right to see an impressive 32-inch flat screen television.  The carpeted floor was lined with beautiful purple neon lights that stretched a mile long.  I couldn’t believe the size of the interior!  I could get used to this!  I tilted my head back and closed my eyes, ready to immerse myself in amazing world of luxury.  But before I knew it, I heard an audible “A-hem”.

I looked over at the opened door and there stood the chauffeur with a non-approving look on his face.  I gave him a crooked smile and quickly stumbled out of the limousine, ready to die in embarrassment.  As I walked back to the entrance of the house, I glanced back and watched four young women dressed in sparkly mini skirts and high heels enter the limo while the chauffeur held the door open.  Must admit, I felt a bit of jealousy knowing that I was not one of those girls.  I bit my lower lip as I watched the limousine pull away, heading off to their next exciting destination.

I sighed and walked up the stairs to my room.  I turned and fell back into my bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.  Purple neon lights flashed before me and I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and before I knew it, I was back in the beautiful limousine.
